Coach Kris
I have been coaching youth runners in Newbury Park, preparing them for high school running, since moving here in 2011. I started coaching at Newbury Park High School in the 2023 season. My Ph.D. is in Biology, but I'm passionate about applying my knowledge of physiology to coaching runners. I try to take a very tailored approach to coaching athletes to support them achieving their goals.
My Story
Growing up as the only runner in my family, I was drawn to running at an early age, around 10. In high school I was mostly a 400m runner--I was decent with race times in the 51s, but definitely not elite. I ran XC for fun in high school to stay in shape for track and fell in love with the sport. As I grew more fond of endurance events, I competed in triathlons during my 30s, ranging from sprints to iron-distance. In my early 40s, I decided to go back to just running. I started running marathons in 2019 and have qualified for Boston all 3 times I've attempted to qualify. I still love running and train as often as I can with my busy schedule, albeit I'm much slower as I approach age 50. I find just as much joy in coaching runners as I do my own running. I am passionate about introducing youth runners to the sport and supporting a life-long love on running in them.
